Why a lumber yard matters on a roofing job
A lot of the work on a commercial roof is wood. Wood nailers hold edge metal. Blocking raises curbs and supports equipment. Framing changes come up when a roof needs a new cricket, a raised curb or a repaired deck opening. When the lumber is wrong or wet, the metal and membrane on top of it do not hold the way they should.
That is why a real lumber yard stays on our list. A yard crew that loads straight lumber onto the truck saves time on the roof.

Lumber choices that hold up on a West Texas roof
On commercial roofs we look for treated lumber where the wood will touch masonry or sit where moisture can collect, and we keep lumber dry before it goes under a membrane. Wet wood trapped under a roof can rot, and fasteners for edge metal need solid wood to bite into.
San Angelo wind tests roof edges first. The May 23, 2024 storm brought baseball size hail and 73 mph winds. Edge metal is only as strong as the nailer and fasteners behind it, which is why we pay attention to the lumber even on a membrane job.
